Debit Card FAQs

FAQs about your Mastercard® Debit Card

If you have an active checking account in good standing, you can fill out a debit card application at any of our PCNB branches. Once your application has been processed, we can either ship a card directly to you, or you can set up an appointment to pick up your new card at our main office location.

If your debit card has been lost or stolen, you should immediately report the card. If it is during business hours, call our main office at 845-225-3688. If you have the mobile app, you can immediately report the card and stop any new transactions.

Log into your mobile app and scroll to the section for "Card Management". Select the card that has been lost or stolen and then select "Report card lost/stolen". It will ask you to clarify whether it was lost or stolen and explain that this action will deactivate your card. Reporting a lost or stolen card as soon as possible is the best way to ensure no further losses. Please contact our main office to order a replacement card to be delivered or schedule a time to come in and pick up a new card.
If you need to make a purchase using your debit card for an amount higher than your $500 POS transaction limit, call our main office at 845-225-3688. If the amount is currently available in your account, we can increase your card limit temporarily to allow the purchase to go through.

If you frequently need to make purchases over the standard $500 POS transaction limit, you can speak with our associates about getting a permanent transaction limit increase approved. These decisions are made by management on a case-by-case basis.
All debit cards come with a standard $500 POS transaction limit and a $310 ATM transaction limit.

If you need a temporary limit increase for either transaction type, call our main office at 845-225-3688 and we would be happy to assist you. If you would like a permanent limit increase for either transaction type, call the main office to request a permanent limit increase. These decisions are made by management on a case-by-case basis.
If this is your first Debit Card it will come in a nondescript envelope. Be aware that it will have no indication on the outside of the envelope of either the bank or that there is a debit card inside. This is how we best protect your card from being taken out of the mail. You should receive a second letter in the mail with your Debit Card PIN within a few days of receiving your debit card. Once you have the PIN you can activate your new card by performing a balance inquiry at any ATM or by calling the main office at 845-225-3688.
You can visit any branch to change your debit card PIN. You will need to bring photo ID and your Debit Card to the branch and let the teller know you would like to set up a new PIN. Feel free to call in advance so the teller is expecting you and will have the PIN change machine ready for your visit.

PINs must be 4 digits and should NEVER be shared with anyone, including bank staff. You should never write down your PIN and should consider avoiding easy to guess number combinations like 1234, 1111 or your birthday/  birth year.
If you see a transaction coming through on your debit card that you did not authorize, you should immediately call the main office at 845-225-3688 and report the transaction. We will have you speak with an associate and in most cases, fill out a report of unauthorized transaction. The sooner you notify the bank of an unauthorized transaction, the better our chances at stopping any future transactions and recuperating the missing funds. For additional security, you can report your debit card as lost or stolen in the mobile app to immediately shut down the card.

You won't! Debit Cards are different than credit cards in that the transactions will immediately come out of your checking account and you will not receive a monthly bill. As long as the funds are available to you, your debit card is directly connected to your checking account balance and will take the funds out immediately in most cases.
As of March 2024, all new PCNB Mastercard® Debit Cards have "contactless" technology which means that you have multiple options to pay at POS units. If a POS unit is contactless-technology enabled, you can simply "tap" your debit card to the machine for purchase. Our Debit Cards also have an EMV chip so you can insert your card for payment on machines that do not offer contactless-technology compatibility.
